THE CHILDREN OF FUNDACIÓN OLIVARES ENJOY A DAY OF CLASSIC SAILING IN THE PUERTO SHERRY MARINA

The Fundación Vela Clásica de España gave the children with cancer of Fundación Olivares a day they will never forget aboard the classic boats, Gipsy and Giraldilla. The children were able to live the unique experience of sailing a yacht: the freedom of navigating on the open sea and learning from traditional navigation. The navigation of their pirate heroes. The Fundación Vela Clásica de España and Fundación Olivares have joined forces so they may work in close collaboration from now onwards.

In an action promoted by Fundación Olivares with the full support of the Fundación Vela Clásica de España, a large group of boys and girls were able to enjoy an unforgettable day aboard classic boats.

The children arrived from Málaga and were welcomed in Hotel Puerto Sherry by the soprano Zayra Ruiz, who sang the well-known habanera written in 1875, ‘L’amour est un oiseau rebelle’, to add some of the best music to the day’s activities.

They started the day by going for a drive in several cars provided by the Club de Vehículos Clásicos de El Puerto de Santa María and accompanied by the Harley Davidson Cádiz Chapter, which took the children to the Osborne winery, Bodega El Tiro, where they took a photo of the brand’s emblematic bull.

At about 1.00pm they reached Puerto Sherry, ready for the highlight of the day: going for a sail aboard two historical yachts, Gipsy and Giraldilla.

When they arrived back at the port, the President of Fundación Olivares, Andrés Olivares, affirmed that:

‘Well, well, well. What a day, what a beautiful place and what lovely boats. Today the Fundación Vela Clásica de España has provided the boys and girls of Fundación Olivares with the opportunity to spend an unforgettable morning. With no white coats, no corridors full of pain, tears and sadness.

‘Today has been a day of laughter and happiness. We’ve sung, we’ve danced… We’ve lived, because life is for living, for feeling, and not for thinking about it.

‘If we had thought about it, we would never have done this. We’ve felt it, both Fundación Olivares and the Fundación Vela Clásica de España.

‘We have sailed together. And we’ll carry on sailing together for a long time.

‘Thank you, thank you and thank you.’

Andrés Olivares

On behalf of the Fundación Vela Clásica de España, the Vice-president, Petete Rubio, stated that:

‘The Fundación Vela Clásica de España would like to thank Fundación Olivares for its work and for giving us the opportunity to take these children sailing aboard the Giraldilla and Gipsy. And we hope we can carry on using these boats and any other that arrive in the future, to continue collaborating in this kind of social work.’
